Documentary chronicles initial chaos in Western North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - “The Day the Lights Went Out” is a WBTV Originals documentary chronicling the first few weeks of chaos across Western North Carolina after Helene hit, from investigative reporter Naomi Kowles and special projects photojournalist Alex Laitala.
It first aired on Nov. 25, capturing Kowles’ and Laitala’s travels from the first month after Helene. You can watch the full documentary in the video player up above, or watch by chapter down below.
The documentary is intended as a “first chapter,” representing part of WBTV’s ongoing coverage and investigations into Helene and its aftermath.
